Rashbre is in the building

26 01 2008

When Rashbre contacted me recently and suggested meeting up for coffee in Amsterdam, I hesitated. Rashbre seems like a nice person, but as I established some time ago, no one really knows who Rashbre really is – the meeting could have gone either way.

At the worst, I might have got stabbed in the eye.

But Rashbre is not the first person from the internet I’ve met, and each meeting has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I met the award winning P A Moed in Amsterdam a couple of summers ago, I went for a Chinese meal with the gorgeously Gothic couple, PurpleGlitter and V1ctory_1s_M1ne, and I spent 3 hours in a bar with the one of the wittiest of the flickrati Stewart Leiwakabessy and that smart cookie and Blad user known as Keksofant.

So what the hell, I thought. Let’s give it a go.

And it was just as much fun as all the other meetings (a lot of fun). We talked about blogging, writing, photography and other such stuff. I brought along my Blad and we snapped each other. I don’t know where all the time went. I do know we spent a fair few minutes trying to work out where exactly we’d encountered each other, and I’m not sure we reached a definite conclusion. But in the process I learned a lot more about just who Rashbre is.
So now it’s time to add another 10 things:

  1. Rashbre is not an eye stabber (phew!)
  2. Rashbre has an unusual accent (or at least not the one I expected). Could that be the Russian influence?
  3. Rashbre travels a lot.
  4. Rashbre travels light, getting everything into a cool little rucksack.
  5. Rashbre has written more than one novel.
  6. Rashbre owns a clutch of cameras, but the original coffee cup of the famous coffee cup cam is gone forever.
  7. Rashbre’s avatar is a good likeness, apart from the nose, which is quite different.
  8. Rashbre has been to Amsterdam before. (I’d have probably spotted Rashbre last time if I’d known about the nose).
  9. Rashbre drinks koffie verkeerd, but to be fair, it was the first time.
  10. Rashbre has excellent taste when it comes to propelling pencils.

Rashbre was kind enough to offer to read my novel, and gave me the lovely pencil in the photo above to use when I write my novel. I’m sure it will bring me good luck.
Then Rashbre left the building and it was time to hurry back to work.

Aww.

Lovely photo – and so ‘Square’ – I’m sitting here imagining the clunk – it must be worth a sound sample.

And being left handed will certainly aid creativity, holding “something to write home with”.

Het was leuk u te zien.
