Learning to run
I’m a runner again!
Actually, let’s not get too excited about this. I went for a 20 minute run consisting of 1 minute intervals with 1 minute recoveries. But it’s a start - it’s still a run.
The idea is to start really gentle and build up slowly. That’s how it’s been with just about everything since I got chronic fatigue.
When I was getting over it last time, swimming was my exercise of choice. I began with just a couple of lengths of the pool and worked up from there, adding a length or two each time.
I also had to relearn my technique, I had to slow down and concentrate on perfecting the movements as best I could. Every once of energy was precious then and I couldn’t afford to waste it.
And though I don’t feel quite that way this time around, the theory’s still good. Chronic fatigue is a time to reassess things, find out what works, and what needs changing.
So I’m concentrating on where I’m putting my foot, how my back is aligned. I’m not feeling brave enough to try barefoot running, not because I don’t believe it works - but I live in a city centre, and I got sick of the comments (and being ). But I am having another go with chi running.
