Dark Room: Distraction free software
The maker of Dark Room describes it as “a full screen, distraction free, writing environment”.
And that’s exactly what it is.
It’s a small free product that you save to your hard drive and run, without having to install anything - so no messy traces are left behind in the Windows registry if you decide to uninstall it.
It comes with a full screen green on black interface, that computer geeks love, but can you can easily change the colours if that’s not your thing.
Apart from a word count, it doesn’t do a lot except let you type in text and prompt you to save on exit. But that’s the point of a distraction-free text editor.
If you use a Mac, you can try WriteRoom the program that inspired darkroom.

Looks a little on the plain side for me. I use PageFour. It makes navigating between chapters very easy, and has some nifty features that come in handy when editing.
Thanks for the tip, Bill. I think they do different things. Page four looks interesting, but some people prefer no frills. And Dark room is free.
